Why Chelsea should sign Seydou Doumbia

Morning beautiful people! I woke up on the right side of the bed today and I’m buzzing with excitement for no apparent reason. I have to admit there’s been a lot of quiet around the club as regards summer signings.

We have been linked with many attackers this summer, the top names being Lille’s Eden Hazard, Porto’s Hulk and quite recently Wigan’s Moses. We got Eden as you already know, so Hulk was expected to follow suit. As I write, he is nowhere close to being a Chelsea player.

I won’t say I’m surprised Hulk has not signed for Chelsea. I mean…the relationship between Chelsea and Porto does not exactly rival Romeo and Juliet’s. The Porto management must still hold grudges given how we took Mourinho, Carvalho, Ferreira, and Villas-Boas away from them.

They are the second biggest club in Portugal and do not want to be seen as a feeder club for Europe’s top teams. They want to challenge for European honors and as a result, they tag outrageous prices to their players just to keep bidders off. Last season, Porto informed Chelsea to pay ₤26 million to sign Álvaro Pereira. Pereira is decent at best shouldn’t cost more than ₤12m. Hulk is worth ₤20m in my estimation but given he is a Porto player I expect them to demand close to ₤40m. I’d be gutted if we caved into their demands. Last season, we spent ₤18m on Lukaku and there are little signs to show that it was a good investment.

If there is anyone I think will be good value for money, it is Seydou Doumbia. I honestly believe we should be chasing Seydou Doumbia and I have my reasons.

Seydou Doumbia vs. Lokomotiv defence

He scores lots of goals. He was top scorer in the Ivorian league in 2005, he was top scorer in the Swiss super league in 2008–09 and 2009–10 and Russian premier league top scorer in 2010/2011. Seydou has been top scorer in three different leagues and top scorer for three consecutive seasons.

Seydou is African (d’oh). Drogba contract has expired and he chosen to move to China to promote the Chinese game. Salomon Kalou has been released by the club. This leaves us with only two Africans, Mikel and Essien in the first team. We have three Brazilians in Piazon, Ramires and Luiz; three Portuguese in Meireles, Hilário, and Ferreira; four Belgians and many English men. If we add another African to keep Mikel and Essien company, it wouldn’t be bad at all. Especially an African with great talent like Doumbia.

Samsung will be happy. Samsung sells tons of electronics in Africa and they use Chelsea players in almost all their adverts. Samsung uses Drogba the most in their adverts followed Essien and then Mikel.  Samsung loses a great marketing tool with Drogba gone to China because the Chinese league is not popular in Africa. If we signed Seydou Doumbia, Doumbia could be the new face of Samsung in Africa.

Samsung: It’s Drogba’s Choice

Seydou will give Torres and Sturridge competition. Many Blues want Torres to automatically be our main striker next season. I have to say I disagree; competition for places is good for any team. Torres scored many goals for Liverpool but won nothing with them. Van Persie fired le Arse to third place last season but his prolific scoring couldn’t earn them a trophy.

It takes more than one good striker to earn a trophy. I doubt we would have won anything if we did not have Kalou, Torres and Sturridge to rotate with Drogba (and also the many goals from our midfielders).

Man United despite not winning the league ended the league with the same points as Man City. They wouldn’t have gotten there without goals from Rooney, Welbeck, Chicarito and Berbatov. Man City won on goal difference because they had four quality strikers in Tevez, Aguero, Balotelli, and Dzeko. They even want to add Van Persie. Le Arse has signed two strikers in Giroud and Podolski because they know one striker is not enough to win titles. Adding a proven goal scorer in Seydou Doumbia increases our chances of winning the league.

It’s been a couple of years since we won the Premier League title, and I would extremely happy if we make it our priority next season. I mean…now that we have secured the Holy Grail, we can go back to being champions of England again.

Finally if we sign Doumbia, we would have a player with a different playing style to Sturridge and Torres. This will give Di Matteo the chance to change our tactics occasionally to prevent us from being predictable. In our double winning season with Ancelotti, we scored the most goals that season because Ancelotti had the players to prevent us from being predictable.

That’s all I have for you today. Thanks for taking your time to read. Have an amazing day wherever this post meets you.

Chelsea January Transfer Window Analysis

January! January! January! The month we have been waiting for, when transfer window opens and the rumors rise till they get ridiculous.

It is believed that Roman will give Villas-Boas a war-chest of £150m to spend in this January transfer window. If that’s true, AVB should seize the opportunity to sign quality players that will enable our squad challenge and hopefully win some trophies.

If AVB signs some quality players, I believe we can even win the premier league this season. It may seem impossible but there is still half a season of games to play. As AVB said: “In this season’s title race, there will be a lot of surprises”.

It’s up to our players to surprise everyone including themselves. I believe they are capable because these are the same players who got us from 7th to 2nd place in the league last season. We could have even won the premier league if we got a result at Old Trafford. It is mathematically possible for us to still win the league so we must keep the faith.

Let’s take a look on our current squad, this is the same squad that won at Valencia, Man City, Newcastle and other places. Also it is the same Squad that lost to QPR, Aston Villa, Leverkusen – to mention but a few. If we compare the depth of squad that Man city have, it is bigger than that of Chelsea. To improve our current squad we need to bring 3-4 new players in this transfer window which will help us for the rest of the season.

Here is an analysis of some of the transfer options or possible players to join Chelsea:

Gary Cahill: At 26, his age is not a concern; his performances are the most important. Cheap to be honest, not many defenders will be available at £7m. He’s demanding around £120k wage in wages. Signing for Chelsea will keep alive his chances to play in Euros for England.

According to the reports, Owen Coyle says his move to Chelsea will be completed by Sunday. And he rates him as good defender, who can play for any team.

He has made 19 Premier League appearances this season for Bolton scoring 2 goals, with no assists, 2 yellow cards, 1 red card, 74 percent passing success and 0.6 shots per game.  A bit average of him, but I won’t judge him much before he plays for Chelsea. He plays in the centre back role which is occupied by John Terry, David Luiz and Ivanovic.

He is weak at passing, but strong in blocking the ball and playing it into air, strong in aerial duels, clearing the ball out of defence, scores in set pieces especially indirect free-kicks.

Edinson Cavani: He is a Uruguayan forward, 24, of pace that resembles that of Diego Forlan. He has made 13 appearances (1 as a sub) for Napoli in the Serie A scoring a total of 9 goals with one assist and one yellow card in the other hand, 3.4 shots per goal and 68 percent passing success.

A player that his price could be a bit high £45m – £50m, but that wont be a problem for Chelsea. His attributes – Strong in finishing , headed attempts, holding on the ball and also he provides defensive contribution.

A player that will fit in Chelsea’s squad and tactics, and will close the gap to Drogba & Kalou who will depart for Afcon tournaments. He is very useful in counter attacks and also in normal build ups. A kind of player that Chelsea need.
Gonzalo Higuain: He is 24, 7 apps (8 as a sub) for Real Madrid in the Spanish La Liga, scoring 12 goals with no assists, 2 shots per game and 88 percent passing success. He has an impressive scoring record since arriving in Spain in 2006 but he has failed to hold down a regular starting role under Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid.

His price tag is around £25m – £30m, a good finisher and a key passer, Good dribbler with skills and long shooter. He can boost the attacking role at Chelsea and score some handy goals along side others. Not only Chelsea are after him but also the Argentine forward is linked with Juventus and PSG.

Marek Hamsik: 24 years old Attacking midfielder and he can play as a right forward in a 4-3-3 formation, his price could be a problem, rated at £45m – £50m. After Chelsea failed to capture Luka Modric – he grew up as a possible target for Chelsea. He has made 11 apps (5 as a sub)  for Napoli in the Italian Serie A scoring 5 goals and providing 4 assists, 1.4 shots per game and 84 percent passing success. He is good in releasing key passes, assisting and finishing too.

He can help to feed the strikers with balls, and adding creativity in our midfield  alongside Mata, Romeu, Lamapard, Meireles, Ramires and others. He is in a class of players that can add creativity at Chelsea and boost our attacking forces.

Alvaro Pereira: He is a defender (left) of 26 years old, he has made a total of 10 apps for FC Porto this season in the Liga Sagres, he will provide aid in our defence also in creating attacking build ups – bringing crosses and good runs through opponent’s defence. He has a release clause of £25m.

Cheich Tiote: A 25 year old Ivorian midfielder who has been pretty in good form recently, capable of controlling the midfield defensively and also in attack. 83 percent passing success. Strong in passing, dribbling, tackling and ball intercepting. Good option for Chelsea, but he may find a difficult way to get regular chances of playing at Chelsea since we have a lot of midfielders. He may coast £30m, as Mr. Alan Pardew is in charge of the magpies.

Milos Krasic: He is a 27 year old winger who joined Italian side Juventus from CSKA Moscow, linked with Chelsea also with other Russian clubs but he doesnt want to return to Russia. He may cost around £20m – £25m.  He has 85 percent passing success, Strong in dribbling, holding the ball and providing key passes. He can help Chelsea and cover the wing role.

Kaka: He is one of the intelligent playmakers in football and 29 years old. He has made 6 apps (6 as a sub) for Real Madrid in the Spanish La Liga  scoring 3 goals and providing 2 assists having 86 percent passing success. He has quite been faced with injuries, making him out and in some poor forms but still a player that Chelsea will need to buy to add more creativity. £30m was a rumored price that Real madrid will sell him.

He is good at scoring, shooting, dribbling and providing key passes also his has a good vision on the pitch and good mentality.

Chelsea need new blood that will make us play top class football like the season we won the historic  domestic double, with some quality signings, we can only get better, compete for and win title(s).

Keep the faith wherever you read this from!

Chelsea Need new Blood

We need more strength and depth in the squad to challenge in the Premier League title race. This season our squad has been too inconsistent, we earned draws where we should have won and lost games that could have been draws.

Currently we are out the Top 3 and 11 points below the League leaders Manchester city and Manchester united each with 45 points. Luckily, Arsenal failed to take advantage of us dropping points so they remain in 5th place. The miserable thing about our current situation is that Spurs are right above us in third place with a game in hand.

Our season has been poor so far due to goal scoring ducks, controversial refereeing, defensive errors, injuries and off-form runs. It is a miracle that we are in 4th place. Our season has poor and it can get worse if we do not strengthen our squad. We need to first fix our leaky defense and then focus on sharpening our attack. I hope AVB takes advantage of Alex and Anelka’s exit to bring in a quality centre half and a creative midfielder.

In an ideal world, Malouda and Drogba would join Alex and Anelka out of the club this January. Seydou Doumbia would replace Drogba, Hazard would replace Malouda, Hummels would replace Alex and Thiago Alcantara (through a Romeu type deal) would replace Anelka. Unfortunately, we do not live in an ideal world. Most of the best players in the football do not move to new clubs in January. Given the intensity of the rumors, expect Cahill replacing Alex as a Chelsea player by Sunday. We will not buy another striker to replace Anelka; AVB will argue that he has enough strikers i.e. Kalou, Lukaku, Torres, Drogba and Sturridge. Despite Malouda’s threats to leave, I expect him to stay and enjoy his paycheck unless PSG are silly enough to sign him. Close your mind to players like Thiago Alcantara, Mario Goetze, Khedira, Sneijder, Kaka et cetera. Chelsea will not move for them because Essien’s return will strengthen the team.

AVB has to be brave this transfer window because Chelsea finishing top four partly depends on the players that join this January. I see parts of AVB vision already and I like it; if AVB can get quality players who can clearly depict his vision in January, he should not wait until July 2012 because it could be late.

Our Solid Preseason Is Clouding Our Problems

Imagine Sneijder At Chelsea, It's Easy If You Try - John Lennon

Our preparations for next season have gone well so far (and I don’t expect it to change in tomorrow’s Rangers game). We started a bit slow with 1-0 wins over Portsmouth and Malaysia XI; this start didn’t please some Chels given the Portsmouth and Malaysia results were down to own goals. As the cliché goes, third is a charm and in our game against Thailand All Stars, we secured a 4-0 win. We went on to win 4-0 against Kitchee and 2-0 against Aston Villa. We have scored 12 goals conceded no goals in 5 preseason games played. Our preseason result is solid given the squad had to regain match fitness, learn Villas-Boas’ system and then gel together.

Every Chels I know is happy or at least satisfied with our preseason form. I’m also happy with our preseason form but I fear this form is hiding our problems. Last season, our game was skewed to the left side of the pitch. This is because we lacked a right winger. It was no brainer that Malouda created our most chances and scored our most goals in the league last season. When the midfield had the ball, they passed it to Malouda and expected a miracle. Given Zhirkov was injured and Sturridge wasn’t trusted to be rotated with Malouda, when Malouda’s form dropped, the whole team suffered. We need to sign a right winger to relieve pressure on the left wing; this will balance our play and make us less predictable.

We still need a creative midfielder, Benayoun is a quality player but if he gets injured, we will be in the same mess we were last season. We would have to rely on Anelka for creativity; don’t get me wrong, Anelka is a fantastic player but he is past his peak.  The more we rotate Malouda and Anelka, the better their performances will be.

If I was to choose between a creative midfielder and a winger, I did go for a creative midfielder. If Bosingwa picks form, he will provide some width. I also expect Anelka and Kalou to provide some width. The priority should be a creative midfielder. If Spurs don’t want to sell Modric, we should move on to other targets. If Le Arse wants £40million for Fabregas, I don’t see how Modric is worth £35 million. For £35million we could sign Sneijder who is immense quality. Think of the positive impact a has-been like Deco had on our team, how much more Sneijder?

Right now, I will be happy if we sign any creative midfielder. I don’t want us to be singing our “should have, could have, would have” in January 2012 and then do what we were supposed to do this summer. There’s still some time till the end of the transfer window, let us hope we sign someone soon.

Pastore Gone | Villas Takes A Cautious Approach To Transfers.

Good morning Chels,

Zamparini told Radio Radio on this morning that Palermo had agreed a fee of €43 million with PSG for the transfer of Pastore. This means Pastore simply has to agree personal terms with PSG and he will join them.  I expect PSG to officially announce their signing today.

We may have lost out on Pastore but I’m not worried. I believe if we wanted him badly, we would have signed him. Remember, we signed Torres in January for a record fee because we wanted him badly. PSG valued Pastore more than us and they showed it by placing a higher bid than us.  It is that simple.

I have examined Villas-Boas attitude to the transfer market since he arrived at Chelsea. I don’t think Villas-Boas believes in big money signings or marquee players. When Villas-Boas was quizzed on Chelsea’s offer £22million offer for Modric, he said: “We respect whatever position Tottenham takes and the prices we are talking about is an incredible amount of money.” Villas-Boas first signing of the season has been Oriol Romeu for £5million. Villas-Boas has already stated that he sees Romeu standing in for Essien. We could have signed Vidal for £17 million to challenge Essien for first team. I doubt many Chels believe that a £5 million signing can fit in Essien’s role but Villas-Boas believes the 19-year-old can do it. I have to trust his Villas-Boas instincts.

Skysports has linked us with Scott Dann but new news cropped up that Villas-Boas is hoping Rajkovic is granted a UK working visa. If Rajkovic gets his visa, Villas-Boas wouldn’t need to sign Dunn. Villas-Boas is taking a wise approach to his signings, he knows the fans are hungry for a marquee player but if he is going to get us one, it has to be in the right positions. I wouldn’t be surprised if we sign one more relatively unknown talent and one reasonably priced marquee player this window.

There are many quality players still available for transfer this window. To mention a few, Sneijder, Modric and Gotze are still up for grabs. Do not fret that we haven’t signed one yet because there is still more time in the transfer window.

Pre-season Begins | Italian Old Lady Bids For Mikel| Modric Heads For Spurs Showdown Talks

Morning Blues.  Today, pre-season preparations for our squad begin at Cobham. The squad will train with Villas-Boas for the first time; they will also undergo a series of medical tests to monitor their health and fitness levels. I am glad our Blue Army are back in training; it has been tough living without them for so long. Watch Chelsea TV or visit the official Chelsea website to keep up to date on day 1 of pre-season.

Reports in the Daily Mail suggest that Chelsea is ready to sell Mikel to Juventus for £15m. Daily Mail claims that we are chasing Michel Bastos to pave the way for Zhirkov to leave the club. I am going to take the Daily Mail’s stories with a pinch of salt. The reason is Villas-Boas is in charge of the transfer activity at the Bridge; Villas-Boas wants to monitor his players during pre-season, watch the gaps before selling or buying new players.  If Villas-Boas after examining the squad believes Mikel should leave, I will have no problem. The only thing is that we have to sign his replacement before we let him go. City, United and Liverpool have all strengthened their squad. We should seek to add more quality players before we even consider selling. For now, the Mikel to Juventus story is just pure speculation. Let us hope it remains that way. Concerning the Mail’s Bastos replacing Zhirkov story, I will have no reservations if it happens. Zhirkov has probably spent more time in the injury room than on the pitch for Chelsea. He is yet to show returns on the money we spent on him. For now, Bastos replacing Zhirkov story is also pure speculation. Villas-Boas has employed new fitness and medical personnel at Chelsea; let us hope Zhirkov remains fit throughout next season.

Yesterday, I wrote we should expect more developments on the Chelsea-Modric transfer saga. According to Skysports Modric will meet with Spurs chairman Levy this week to discuss his future. There are two possible outcomes of the meeting; first is Spurs will offer him an improved contract and then lie that they will make some quality signings this summer. The second is that Spurs will cave-in and sell him to us for a region between £22m-£30m. Let us hope for the latter.

Chelsea To Battle For Scott Dann | What’s ‘Arry Deal?

Hello Blues.

We have been linked with over 100 players this transfer window. I have heard so many “done deals” that never materialized.  Honestly, I think the journalists are clueless about our transfer targets. They are speculating on many players as possible so that when we sign one, they can point us their news article. Given most of us are playing “Have we signed anybody yet?” game, let us enjoy the speculations even if they are ridiculous as Pepe as to Chelsea.

Skysports understands that we are competing with Arsenal for Scott Dann. I never knew Arsenal could compete with us for players. We win trophies and we pay the highest salary in England; Dann will be silly to turn us down. Our club is yet to place an official bid for Dann. For now, it is just speculation from a highly regarded news source.

Harry Redknapp has slammed our bid for Modric. ‘Arry said:

“It’s a farcical bid.”

“If they’re going to make an offer, make an offer, but £22million for Luka Modric is ridiculous.”

Modric is “such a fantastic player, we don’t want to sell him. He’s up there with the very, very best players in the Premier League and I think he can play in any team in the world, he’s that good.”

I believe what ‘Arry is simply telling us to make him an offer for Modric he can’t refuse.  He is only adding “we don’t want to sell him” phrase to avoid the wrath of Spurs fans.  I believe that is why ‘Arry keeps talking about our Modric bid. ‘Arry wants to delve into the transfer market but Spurs are not keen on providing him the funds. ‘Arry might have to sell Modric to make some purchases this summer. Expect more Modric to Chelsea stories this window.

Have a Blue Day!

Santos Saves Chelsea from Potential Quagmire

Last night, Santos issued a statement ruling out the sale of Neymar on their website. In the statement, Santos’ president Luiz Álvaro made it very clear that the club was not ready to listen to any offers for Neymar. In the same statement, Neymar’s agent declared that it was not in his client’s best interest to leave Santos now. In short, Santos told all bidding clubs to bug off.

Neymar is a young talented striker with an impressive goal record. We tried signing him when he turned 18 but we failed in our bid. After our failed bid, Neymar got a new contract with a higher release clause. Given that we did not want to meet his release clause of €35m, I found it surprising Álvaro told the press last week that we were one of the clubs to meet his new release clause of €45m. I guess winning the Copa Libertadores changes the value of a player.

To be frank, I do not want to see Neymar at Stamford Bridge anytime soon. The kid has a bad attitude. In September 2010, he threw up a tantrum and yelled at his manager for not making him take a penalty kick. The manager punished him by making him sit out two matches. Santos sacked the manager for making Neymar unhappy. Neymar dives often to earn free kicks and penalties. After waiting for 48 years, Santos won their third Copa Libertadores title. Neymar celebrates this fantastic achievement by joining a fight that broke out at the end of the match.

Neymar Kicks Penarol Player

Neymar is a fantastic player but it until he matures; I do not want him near our club. Given Santos sacked a manager because he punished Neymar, I do not believe it will be anytime soon. Santos has saved us from a potential quagmire.

Reasons Why Chelsea Should Sign Modric

With the departure of Deco and ‘Joe Cole the betrayer’, Chelsea lost its midfield creativity. Our game became predictable; it became easy for small teams like Birmingham, Sunderland and Wolves to get a result against us. In the end, our lack of creativity prevented us from winning a single trophy.

It seems our club’s management finally got the message; we are in the market for creative players. We have been linked with Ganso, Sneijder, Adel Taarabt, Modric and many more. It seems Modric is our management’s choice given we already made a £22m bid for him that Spurs rejected. According to SkySports, our club will return with an improved offer for Modric.

Modric will be a very good buy for the following reasons:

  1. He is a technically gifted midfielder with eagle eye vision.
  2. Modric is not a player with great assist stats like Lamps; Modric focuses on creating the chances that players like Lamps turn into assists for strikers. With Modric at Chelsea, Lamps will be free to be Lamps.
  3. He is young at 25, quick and full of stamina. Given our midfield sometimes moves at snail pace, he will bring energy into our midfield as Ramires did last season.
  4. He will come cheaper (transfer + wages) than many of the creative midfielders currently linked with our club.
  5. He has Premier League and Champions League experience.
  6. Finally, it shows Spurs that they are just a small club in London.

I leave you with this video of Modric to enjoy. Have a nice day!

Chelsea should be chasing Mario Gotze

Hello Blues

I think it is a shame that we are yet to see a story linking us with Mario Götze. Götze is a 19-year-old attacking midfielder who plays for Dortmund in Germany.

He is the second player to be twice awarded with a Fritz Walter medal. A Fritz Walter medal is awarded annually to Germany’s best U17, U18 and U19 players. In 2009, he was the most influential player in Germany’s U17 EURO championship win. He made his first German national team appearance in November 2010.

As Dortmund’s playmaker, this kid has incredible ball control and vision. He can weave through the tightest defensive setups with ease. Götze ended last season as the best playmaker in Germany with 6 goals and 15 assists. Last season, he played 41 games in all competitions, which shows how much Dortmund valued his contribution. I believe this kid has the same football intelligence as Ozil and in a few years, he could surpass Ozil. Although Dortmund Bundesliga win is often credited to Sahin. Sahin partnership with Götze made it possible; Götze is the reason why many of the Sahin created chances didn’t remain chances but turned into goals.

I would love to see Götze in our kit next season. If it doesn’t happen, I hope we still sign some promising youth talents. Say no to Deco-Benayoun type signings.

Enjoy this video of Götze
